- Description
The nontarget effects of buprofezin and acephate, in combination at concentrations ranging from 2.5 to 10 ?g g?1, towards activities of cellulases, amylase and invertase in unamended and NPK-fertilizer-amended cotton soils were studied. Enzyme activities were determined spectrophotometrically by using standard in vitro soil incubation studies. The influence of the selected insecticides on enzyme activities was dose-dependent. Additive and synergistic stimulatory responses were noticed at lower concentrations; where as, at higher rates of insecticides, antagonistic inhibitory reactions were observed. It is apparent, therefore, that the soil application of buprofezin and acephate combinations, at higher concentrations, resulted in an interaction leading to significant antagonistic effect on activities of the soil enzymes tested. Thus, this study undoubtedly highlights the impact of insecticides on soil microflora, and also it aids in the deterrence of intensive and extensive usage of insecticides in agriculture.
